What makes a great video? Storytelling is essential. There needs to be a beginning, middle, and end weaved together with flowing words from scripts and/or interviews. But a video is nothing without cinematography. It’s rare to view a video where the pictures not only support the words but elevate the script to a higher level. Outside the Frame is a video production company which draws from a deep talent pool of artists in New York and Los Angeles. The company recently produced this corporate video for architecture firm Perkins Eastman highlighting the new development center at Providence College. The result is a stunning paean to an innovative design.

There are many ways of telling a story, and with advancing technology, there are more tools. Augmented reality superimposes computer-generated images onto a viewer’s real-view of the world. The resulting composite scenes can be both entertaining and informative. Broadcast journalists are finding more ways of using augmented reality to breakdown complicated stories for easier consumption. Aljazeera is a worldwide cable news channel providing 24-hour a day coverage to events, similar to CNN and FOX News. Recently the news channel wanted to explain the economics of the war in Yemen, which is a proxy battle between the United States backed Saudi Arabia and Iran. The report’s augmented reality uses graphic animation to present a clear picture of those involved, the economics, and the human cost.

Title of Entry: “Extraordinary Calling”
Category: 292. Video/Audio | Video/Film | Educational Institution

The team at Aspect Film and Video Ltd were asked to create a brand campaign to showcase Cass in an unexpected way – not just your average business school. And truly bring to life the Cass brand strap-line ‘extraordinary calling’.

“Extraordinary Calling” is a bold brand film designed to intrigue, inspire, and engage prospective students, current students, and alumni of Cass Business School. The creative approach is surreal and surprising, revealing visual representations of ‘extraordinary calling’ through visual effects, real-life scenarios, and hyper-real sound design.

Using two strong metaphors help to reinforce the brand message of Extraordinary Calling; the animal kingdom as a metaphor for the strengths of the university and the people involved, as well as showing Cass students acknowledging what is happening to imply they are being called to Cass.

This film was central to a full online campaign. The results speak for themselves; with 1.4 million views in the first month, as well as great levels of engagement, across all Cass social platforms.

We’ll continue to feature some of this year’s most noteworthy Companies.

Organization:
 z2
Location: Waukesha, WI
Title of Entry: “Addy Awards Video”
Category: Video Production | Video

If you’ve ever been involved with the Addy Awards, you know someone gets tasked with creating the promotion and themed materials each year. It’s no small task and proves to be a big challenge to do something new, but is also a great opportunity to showcase your creativity, which z2 has done expertly. As long-time Addy participants and supporters, this video knocked our socks off.

We had to know more — so we asked. It turns out z2 put out an all-call audition out via Facebook for kids age 10-14. They ended up with 26 kids (and one dog) who volunteered for the project – no paid actors. But they did throw them a pizza party for everyone.

This particular video was the intro to the ADDY Awards ceremony. They also filmed 3 vignettes/breakers for the ceremony during the same shoot which you can view in the embed below.

z2 filmed the entire video on a RED Dragon, DJI Mavic Drone in one 12-hour day at three sets/locations, including an old dead-end road. They purchased two old soapbox cars and repainted them to fit the story. And sourced a bunch of retro cars, clothing, and props to make the film feel like it was in the 70’s ala “The Bad News Bears” or “The Sandlot” — two amazing films if you ask us.

All in all, z2 Marketing is a standout submission and we’re so pleased to have creative experts like them involved in our competitions.
