2018 MarCom Awards Spotlight: Federal Grid Company

We’re showcasing some of this year’s competitions stand-out entries.

MarCom Awards Organization: Federal Grid Company
Location: Moscow, Russia
Title of Entry: “Federal Grid Company: Towards Digital Energy”
Category: 89. Print Media – Print Creativity – Annual Report/CSR

Annual reports, by nature, include very dry financial information about a company’s status each year. Just because the subject matter is dry and often colorless, doesn’t necessarily mean that the report has to be.

Federal Grid Company of the Unified Energy system is a Russian company that supplies energy transmission services. Their annual report finds new and creative ways of explaining mission, goals, and data to stakeholders.

The report is filled with intricate graphics in vivid colors with concise headings wrapped with a laudable layout. The infographics are not only well designed, but easily readable. The final product is a visually engaging report that entices readers, instead of a dry, text-heavy publication.

Title of Entry: “Washington College Campus 360 Interactive Virtual Tour”
Category: 45. Website – Virtual Reality

When choosing a school, many students consider experiencing a college’s campus a key deciding factor. Unfortunately, it may not always be possible for a student to visit a certain school’s campus. Washington College found a way to bring their campus to students nationwide.

Washington College created an interactive experience for prospective students and employees who may not be able to visit Chestertown and experience the campus firsthand. Using Google Maps, the college designed a virtual tour of the campus that captures the Washington College spirit. Through the tour, users can “walk” around and get a feel for the campus. Users can navigate through the tour by using the provided prompts, or by using a small map to navigate to any specific locations.

The tours have not only served as an excellent resource for prospective students, but also as a recruitment tool for potential faculty and student-athletes. The campus tour has received up to 20,000 views in 36 weeks and is only one of 21 virtual tours Washington College offers.

Organization: Developer Counsellor’s International
Location: New York, NY
Title of Entry: “Charlotte’s Backyard, NC”
Category: 27.Website – Other – Talent Attraction

Today’s dotCOMM spotlight features a website that goes above and beyond in capturing its subject’s personality and flair.

The Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership partnered with Development Counsellors International (DCI) to create a site as part of a campaign to attract manufacturing talent in Cleveland County. DCI combined vibrant text with inviting videos and images to portray Cleveland County’s personality and flair. Once users are drawn in, they are prompted to choose between finding their “village,” “craft,” “rhythm,” or “voice,” to continue their journey through the site.

The site’s navigation allows users to choose their journey through the site according to what is most important to their session, whether it researches for a future home or entertainment recommendations. Through the Charlotte’s Backyard site, users are able to locate school district information, job openings in the area, volunteer opportunities and restaurant recommendations. Users are also able to learn more about local manufacturing job opportunities and listen to local manufacturing employees who have found their dream job in Cleveland County.

We really wanted to show that manufacturing isn’t the stuffy, dreary warehouses of our grandparent’s generation,” Karleen Lewis, Senior Account Executive at DCI, said.

The site combines cultural, economic and geographical elements to give an inside look into the quality of life in Cleveland County By using vivid images, videos and text, the site communicates Cleveland County’s unique nature instead of reading as a typical county overview.

2018 dotCOMM Awards Spotlight: Little Wolf Productions

We’ll continue to feature some of this year’s most noteworthy dotCOMM Awards entries throughout the competition.

dotcomm-link-graphic2

Organization: Little Wolf Productions
Location: Vancouver, BC
Title of Entry: “Impacts of Climate Change upon Regional Marine Ecosystems”
Category: 62. Video for the Web – Educational Institution

Many educational videos take a text-based approach and outline key facts and figures surrounding the video’s chosen subject. While this is a perfectly acceptable form of video, another way to educate a video’s viewers is to give them a first-hand look at the subject.

Little Wolf Productions, a Vancouver-based production company, worked with the University of British Columbia’s Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Study to shoot a video explaining climate change’s impact on ecosystems. The video follows Professor Chris Harley as he walks viewers through Calvert Island’s beaches and explains the effect of climate change on the island’s wildlife and landscape.

The combination of stunning imagery and Harley’s informative narration communicates the consequences of climate change by immersing the viewer, instead of only outlining facts on a screen.

To promote a consumer event, Association Headquarters identified a micro-influencer who could reach the agency’s target audience. Association Headquarters provided the influencer with branded content surrounding the event to promote in the influencer’s closed Facebook group.

Association Headquarters’ campaign reached more than 1,000 Facebook group members in their target audience and produced 390 event registrations, marking an overall success.
