We’ll continue to feature some of this year’s most noteworthy MarCom Awards entries throughout the competition.
Organization: Aljazeera Media network Location: Doha, Qatar Title of Entry: “Abraham Lincoln Carrier / Saudi – Yamen War” Category: 312. Video/Audio | Digital Video Creation | Augmented/Mixed Reality |
There are many ways of telling a story, and with advancing technology, there are more tools. Augmented reality superimposes computer-generated images onto a viewer’s real-view of the world. The resulting composite scenes can be both entertaining and informative. Broadcast journalists are finding more ways of using augmented reality to breakdown complicated stories for easier consumption. Aljazeera is a worldwide cable news channel providing 24-hour a day coverage to events, similar to CNN and FOX News. Recently the news channel wanted to explain the economics of the war in Yemen, which is a proxy battle between the United States backed Saudi Arabia and Iran. The report’s augmented reality uses graphic animation to present a clear picture of those involved, the economics, and the human cost.
